CRIME NEWS

  • On Saturday, Rexburg police arrested an unidentified driver for DUI and felony meth possession after officers responded to a traffic complaint near a local business where the driver was found impaired and parked in a handicapped spot—officers searched the vehicle and discovered prescription pills, a glass smoking pipe, methamphetamine, and a large sum of cash. The driver is now booked in jail and faces multiple charges.  Local News 8

ECONOMY NEWS

  • AAA Idaho said drivers filling up today saw Monday’s average for a gallon of regular gas at $3.18—4 cents lower than last month and 19 cents lower than last year. Rexburg pumps show a price of $3.21 while neighboring states have varied rates as cheaper crude oil keeps costs stable.  East Idaho News

  • Candice Cooley lost her son nearly a year ago when he was found dead in the Utah desert and has urged lawmakers to pass a new law in May that lets police access phone data quickly when someone goes missing—she is also planning a two-day training workshop on April 1-2 in Salt Lake City and hopes eastern Idaho officers join.  KSL
  • A recent audit by Rexburg’s auditor shows the city’s finances are in great shape—reflecting careful financial management by local officials.  Rexburg Standard Journal
  • Eastern Idaho irrigators saw progress when the Joint Finance-Appropriations Committee on Friday morning approved a motion to fund Gov. Brad Little’s $30 million budget request for aquifer recharge and water storage projects. The bill will move to the House and Senate for final approval — a critical step to secure ongoing water infrastructure funding.  East Idaho News
