  • Virgil Jonak, a 93-year-old truck driver who worked during Teton Dam construction, recalls warning the project would fail when the dam collapsed on June 5 near Rexburg+ his emotional memories mark the 50th anniversary of a disaster that flooded the area and claimed lives.  East Idaho News

CULTURE NEWS

  • NFHS will present the musical 'Newsies' this weekend + the production promises a lively, family-friendly show for local audiences.  Rexburg Standard Journal
  • The Rexburg Tabernacle Orchestra Chamber Ensemble will perform chamber music with strings, woodwinds, and brass (its spring showcase) on Apr. 30 in Rexburg.  Rexburg Standard Journal

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Idaho DEQ sued Rexburg last week for Clean Water Act violations — repeated pollutant discharges in the South Fork Teton River spurred action by local environmental groups. Rexburg will work with the DEQ to plan cost-effective wastewater upgrades that may cost millions.  Local News 8

  • Senior thrower Nite recorded one of the best long throws in Madison HS history at Boise Relays. The event took place in early April as the Upper Valley begins to sound like summer with the hum of lawnmowers.  Rexburg Standard Journal
