  • EastIdahoNews.com and Ashley and Ashley Outlet are honoring Tyler Platt (an ARK Locks and Security employee) after he quickly unlocked a car when a 1-year-old was accidentally trapped inside yesterday in Rexburg. He arrived in minutes and handled the call with calm, professional care (the service was free) as part of Feel Good Friday.  East Idaho News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Sparks Barbecue opened six months ago in the old JB’s building on Main Street near Broulim’s and now serves a variety of smoked meats and sides including brisket, turkey, and nachos — offering generous portions that have quickly become local favorites. The restaurant is open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.  East Idaho News
  • Custom Creatures, an exotic pet shop, opened April 2 at 28 College Ave. in Rexburg. Local owners Jordan and Maureen Moores spent 23 years in Phoenix and now offer reptiles, amphibians, and small mammals while teaching conservation — they accept surrendered animals at no charge.  BYU-Idaho Scroll
  • Angie Johns, a BYU-I sophomore, started Adalee—a modest clothing company that makes garment-friendly dresses for women. CULTURE NEWS

  • Rexburg’s Realm of Bethel Medieval Combat Society holds safe combat practices using foam weapons made by president David Bell — who replaced founder Michael Hansen — at Madison Jr. High in winter and Porter Park in summer. EDUCATION NEWS

  • The BYUI Entrepreneurship Society swept a state competition in Boise in April 2024 and earned top honors in a city contest on March 13 with students taking first, second, and third places across several tracks. The team competed in the 2025 Idaho Entrepreneur Challenge on April 3 and 4 in Boise and will host a school competition in July where interested students meet in room 440 of the Joseph Fielding Smith Building — every Thursday at 11:30 a.m.  BYU-Idaho Scroll

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Madison County 911 dispatchers are honored during National Dispatchers Week from April 14th to 18th, as community partners and law enforcement offered food, snacks, and massages to show support—while Dispatch Sergeant Tyson Beckley introduced a bill to reclassify them as first responders nationally. This celebration recognizes the often unseen work of dispatchers who help start every emergency response with skill and care.  Local News 8
