COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Sunday morning, many Rexburg residents were confused when Papa Murphy’s sign at 64 N. Second E. St. read permanently closed after an employee used it as a farewell joke on his final shift. Assistant manager Andrew Wambach said the sign was changed after the store closed on Saturday night and that the store is still offering its buy one, get one free promotion this week.  BYU-Idaho Scroll
  • Communities across eastern Idaho are planning many Independence Day events that include parades, fireworks, food vendors, and live music. In Rexburg, residents will enjoy a Fourth of July parade at 10 a.m. starting at Madison Avenue and 1st North, a full-day Party in the Park at Porter Park, and a fireworks show at 10 p.m. at Riverside Park and Teton Lakes Golf course — all scheduled for this holiday.  East Idaho News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Local high school debate teams made history at a national tournament in Des Moines last week where one team placed second and the other fifth out of 6,700 competitors. Century High coach Joseph Tyler, recently elected chairman of the Idaho Mountain River District, said he is proud of the achievement and will lead 14 new students to next year’s tournament.  East Idaho News
  • A BYU-Idaho senior dedicated her capstone project to promoting cultural inclusion by using student stories, campus data and proposals for more language-specific church services and cultural events, and her work calls for renewed university and community support + a stronger sense of belonging on campus.  BYU-Idaho Scroll

  • ITD crews fixed potholes on Main Street in Rexburg on Jun 25 and applied a chip seal treatment to Driggs State Highway 33 on Jun 26 — these repairs will help make roads safer for upcoming Fourth of July parades.  Local News 8

  • Hope Camp is a summer program run by Discovery Acre that helps kids learn skills for emotional healing through activities like watercolor painting and mindfulness exercises—designed to offer a safe space for growth.
