CULTURE NEWS

  • At the close of the church’s 195th semi-annual General Conference on Sunday afternoon, President Dallin H. Oaks said no new temples will be announced for the first time in eight years, citing that many temples remain in the planning and construction stages + he added that three temple dedications are scheduled for later this year.  BYU-Idaho Scroll

ECONOMY NEWS

  • AAA Idaho reported that Monday’s average regular gas price was $3.47, which was two cents lower than last week and nearly unchanged from a month ago while Rexburg’s price was $3.42. The release noted that if crude oil prices drop, gas prices may fall further as refineries operate at slightly reduced capacity — a change that could affect drivers across the state.  East Idaho News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • BYU-Idaho celebrates Spirit Week 2025 — marking 25 years since it became a four-year university — from Monday, Oct. 6 to Saturday, Oct. 11. Today, Tuesday, students join events such as a broadcast of President Nelson’s funeral and an ice cream social, with more activities planned throughout the week.  BYU-Idaho Scroll

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Firefighters from Madison and Idaho Falls and deputies from the Madison County Sheriff's Office watched a pack of lithium-ion battery cells burst into flames during a training hosted by Grand Teton Energy Systems in Rexburg on Wednesday. The demonstration + led by logistics manager Brad Hill showed how battery pack explosions can make fires more dangerous and helped officials prepare for future emergencies.  KSL
  • During a Rexburg City Council meeting Wednesday, members discussed an ordinance on short-term rentals that may change rules for Airbnbs—officials will review the proposal and decide on next steps. The review is part of ongoing efforts to update city rental policies.  Rexburg Standard Journal

  • Eastern Idaho sports saw Century teams remain undefeated today as the Diamondbacks outplayed the Teton Timberwolves on the gridiron, the girls soccer team won 5 to 0 against the Snake River Panthers, and the Hillcrest Knights beat the Blackfoot Broncos. Other highlights include Malad's Jace Nalder winning the freshman cross-country race at the Bob Conley meet — and key moments emerged from Idaho State’s game against the Montana Grizzlies.  East Idaho News
